I recently used a simple adaption of aws-ops-wheel which was very much liked by the team.
We randomly picked a team member and asked them to share something of interest they worked on or encountered recently followed by a team discussion. I gave the team a heads up a few days before the retrospective to allow people to think of topics in advance. We are all remote and we used the https://wheelofnames.com/ spinner which allows you to remove names to avoid double turns if you want.
Steps were as simple as:
- Spin the Wheel to select a team member
- The team member discusses recent interesting work experience, problem, task
- Team discussion of ten minutes or less
- While time left in the timebox: Repeat steps 1-3
